I am an Economics Professor at the North-West University in Potchefstroom. I have done it all: teaching for +25 years, writing papers, supervising post-grad studies. I was head of department, journal editor, and President of the Economic Society of South Africa. More importantly, I have always been keen to reach that wider audience. I had a basic website with lecture notes long before the University was online. I had a blog for many years and I publish a regular podcast. I frequently comment about the economy in the media.
Economic literacy in South Africa is limited, but it could be a crucial ingredient of future growth and development. I am not saying that I can single-handedly get everyone to understand opportunity cost, or the benefits of free trade, but someone should make a start, and I want to do it through this website and the courses at high school level.
