Some data

There are lots of sources for national accounts data.

StatsSA has GDP data. The series is called P0441. You can download the press release, fact sheets and the time series data.

The Reserve Bank also has economic and financial statistics.

I like Codera’s EconData platform, but you have to register and know a bit about the platform. They have an excellent Excel add-in for queries.

The World Development Indicators has lots of countries and series that you can use.

The Penn World Tables and the Madison Project have very long-run historical series.

Our World in Data is excellent for awesome graphs.

South Africa’s biggest economic challenge is that the economy has been growing too slowly. Compared to emerging market peers, we are falling behind in per capita levels terms.

Our growth rates have simple been too low.

And our industries have been struggling with the services industries growing a bit.
